The Garden Route is lucky enough to enjoy a Mediterranean climate and with some 3000 hours of sunshine a year, this area has become a top destination for holiday makers both from within and outside South Africa.
Although an excellent year round destination the Garden Route is considered by many to be at its best during the months of February, March and April. The higher temperatures of the summer months of November, December and January have come down and the days are mostly warm, calm and glorious. With temperatures often reaching the mid twenties (20C), the weather is usually perfect for enjoying the outdoor lifestyle and things to do the Garden Route has to offer.
If you enjoy a more peaceful holiday and are keen to escape the hustle and bustle, the quieter winter months of June, July and August tend to be mild (around 14C). The days are often warm but temperatures can be low in the evening. The position of the Garden Route between two climatic regions means rain can fall at any time of the year but it tends to fall mainly in winter and conveniently, most often at night!
Spring makes itself felt towards the end of August and into September where temperatures slowly start to creep up. October can be changeable but when November arrives you can look forward to 5 or 6 months of warm, sunny weather and throughout December, January and February the temperatures often reach up to 30C.
