Fancourt - The Links
Gardenroute
The Links at Fancourt is surely one of the most impressive golf courses on the whole Garden Route if not in the whole of South Africa. This incredible 18 hole, par 73 Garden Route golf course, located in the beatiful Garden Route town of George is an amazing piece of golf design and construction. The Links at Fancourt Golf Course is a golf course, which not only provides a thorough test for every golfer, but also ranks among the top courses in the world.
Famous golfer, Gary Player and his design team spent a considerable amount of time studying the classic links courses in Scotland and Ireland and then used the inspiration gained from the best that these countries have to offer, to recreate some of their finest holes to make a genuine links test on what once served as an airfield.
The resulting golf course is awe-inspiring and has received praise from the world’s top golfers. In 2003, The Links played host to the Presidents Cup, which ended in a historic tie after a nail-biting play-off between Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. The Women’s World Cup of Golf was hosted at The Links at Fancourt in 2005, as well as the SAA Open, the world’s second-oldest national Open Championship.
The Links at Fancourt is a private club, with play restricted to members and their invited guests. Limited times are available for guests staying at Fancourt’s hotel and booking is essential.
A round of golf at The Links at Fancourt is without doubt a special experience, very much enhanced by the expert caddies at the club. The caddies at The Links at Fancourt are some of the best in the world and will assist any standard of golfer in negotiating his or her way around The Links.
Playing at The Links at Fancourt, it is sometimes hard to believe that one is not at one of the top golf courses in Scotland or Ireland, until, that is, one notices the imposing and stunning Outeniqua mountain range that rises impressively in the background, giving a truly magical setting within which to tee off.
